I arrived here as I research what to do for a storm surge inundated vegetable garden. The ocean traveled over the rockaway peninsula where we have our community garden. I was to plant garlic in two weeks. Our soil was finally reaching perfection after 3 years. Just two weeks ago I turned our tomato beds for garlic, noting the abundance of big earthworms. Yesterday I noted the shriveled worms on top of the soil. So sad.

Frank, that's a heartbreaker. I'm sorry. Cross your fingers for more rain in the next few weeks to help leach the salt from the soil. And fingers crossed for next year. Best wishes, kris

Relieved that Blithewold was spared big-time damage.
Most likely because you take such good care of the landscape.
Here in Newport there was much flooding downtown..shops mopping up.....and as we drove around today, some old trees down ..... could have been much worse. But really rough going. We are a resilient lot here...carry on.

Ginny, I heard that Newport's grand old beeches were hard hit. So sad. And I couldn't believe the pictures of Bannister's/Bowen's wharf. Glad you are safe and sound! -kris
