Stellar weekend

Hey, what’s that thing up there that’s all bright and making me feel kind of warmish? Could it be…? No… I don’t believe it. Yes – it’s true – the sun’s out! Yesterday’s gale dried off the daffodils and blew away the rain clouds and left us today with a bright blazing blue, a whole bunch of bliss, a new round of blooms and a heap of must-dos.
First on my list is get outside and stay there. Indoor chores can wait because there are sights to be seen – like the daffodils hanging on to peak here and all of the spring ephemerals that are opening now and may blow out after a dose of nearly summer-like warmth. Next on my list are the garden tasks that don’t feel at all like chores to me when the weather is so dreamy. We spent today moving perennials around, planting more roses, deadheading the earliest tulips, and hooping some of the peonies that have already set buds. I can hardly wait to get home and do all of that in my own garden… But first, one more circuit of the property to entice a visit:

Ah, the signs of spring. It’s warm in Chicago today, too, so I plan on finally getting out and cleaning my balcony and getting it ready for my container garden.
CD, I think preparation for planting is a perfect task for a hot April day – that’s what I did at home too… -kris

it hit 93 in Philly so I stayed inside, no way am I acclimated to these temps… also resting up from a busy week at work and a craft show yesterday.
Wayne, Not only are we not used to it, but someone today pointed out that there’s no shade yet! Duh. Inside was probably the place to be (though it was and still is gorgeous out…) -kris

I went to Blithewold Sunday, 4/26 to celebrate my birthday. I was lucky to have my sister and a friend join me. Last year we went the same weekend and it was cold and rainy. What a difference this year! I loved the little yellow ground cover with the daffs; they were not in bloom last year. So many special things there, love your photos and comments!
Anne, I’m sorry I missed meeting you. The pendulum swings, doesn’t it? – No rain but hot-hot! I hope you come back for an un-birthday party this summer. -kris

Amen to all that! I saw your post when I buzzed inside to check the actual temp on Saturday but couldn’t stop for long. I know you understand
After what might have been a record of 91 Sat and also Mon, we’re looking at cool gray skies and rain for a few days. That’s ok because, 1, we need it and 2, the stuff I divided needs to be well watered-in! Shame that with such high temps, the tree blooms have not lasted long.
Lynn, At some point on Sunday, I read the temp at my house – 88. And like you, I was busy busy out in it… (Poor plants.) And I’m a little sad about the trees too – really could have sat and watched them bloom out if there wasn’t so much to do! -kris
