PLEASE tell me your secret to wintering over phormiums. They died before spring even when I had a greenhouse. I'm crazy about them. Do you keep them damp or dryish? full or half sun? Potting mix?
Thanks. What is your favorite source?
Thanks so much Val

Val, no secrets here! - We keep them in the cool greenhouse, which can go down into the 40's, high 30's and they don't need much water over winter. Is it possible you over-watered? They can rot... I've heard that they can be kept in the dark, down cellar too but that's how I nearly killed one of mine... And we've had ours since before my time here so I have no advice on where to buy them - except that they seem to be more and more available. I think most of our favorite local nurseries carry at least a variety or two. -kris

I was in Maine last weekend but now, garden chores beckon and I am going outside right after I type to get to it. The garden must be put to bed even if the temperatures still say summer.

Layanee, Summer is right - I've been sweating again! -kris

I'm busy tearing it all out. I would like some sun to make it all seems less urgent and grim. We already have snow on the mountain peaks. This autumn seems very brief and ominous. Nice to see some color elsewhere.

Susan, Do I remember right that you had a short and chilly spring too? With snow nearby now, your growing season must feel so short. I hope you get a blissful fall break before winter! -kris
