Interesting, Kris... I did the soaking method the few times that I grew sweet peas, but I think that I started them way too late so I only got a little flower or two. Since you do so well with yours and that alternate method, I think I might give that a try this year!

The only one I've grown is 'Cupani's Original,' but I also have an even darker-flowered, sweet-smelling variety this year whose name escapes me. Are there any others that I should check out for pretty colors and great scent?

Kim, one of my personal faves is 'Blue Celeste' - it's a large almost frilly pale blue. We're trying one called 'Zinfandel' this year which is in your fave color range and you might love 'Chocolate Streamer' too. Check out Sweet Pea Gardens - it's all sweet peas, all the time and let me know what you try! -kris

Hmmmm, well you never know, do you? That's interesting that you don't scarify the seeds at all and yet 18 varieties do well for you with that method. I tried some year b4 last but planted too late (direct sowing). I'll direct sow again this year, with just a couple variteies, early! Can't wait to see how yours do :)

Lynn, the sweet peas all germinated this past weekend! Such a nice surprise to come back too - I thought they'd take longer. -kris
