Photo op Friday

Visitors have been asking about a very late blooming, very tall, very floriferous daylily blooming just now in the North Garden. It was purchased probably 20 or so years ago from Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehobeth, MA and we think it’s either ‘Autumn King’ or ‘Wee Willie Winkie’. ‘Autumn King’ is the taller of the two so that’s my guess (our plants are a good 5+ feet tall) but the name ‘Wee Willie Winkie’ rang bells for Julie (who would have ordered the plants originally).

A new grass (new to us) in the Cutting Garden (love it! I want a hundred next year)
A Cutting Garden giant (6′ plus) with delicate flowers – but just wait for the seed pods!
A washed out Dahlia ‘Karma Fuchsiana’ – I’m not sure why my camera refuses to capture bluey pinks and pinky blues… This is the dahlia we’re considering for the North Garden. What do you think?

Wait, come back to this post. You can’t picture that gorgeous grass and not tell us all the name of it! What is that, I really like it!

Kris: That grass is a beauty! And the Asclepias…is that hardy? It looks so tropical. I am writing those names in the wish list book! Great photos as always!

I love the Pink Paintbrush Grass – it is so aptly named! I hope the daylilies are ‘Wee Willie Winkie’ just because the name is so cool.
The Franklinia must be spectacular when they are in full bloom. The fog lift on the bay is beautiful.

Carol, The grass is Melinis nerviglumis ‘Savannah’ and we bought the seed from Park’s.
Layanee, The Asclepias is an annual – we bought the seed from Thompson & Morgan and started it in the greenhouse in late March – it put on most of its growth this month. (By Gardener’s Day – Sept. 22, it should be setting plenty of pods (hairy balls) – come check it out!)
