Carol, I did hear another cicada over the weekend - still a soloist - maybe there'll be a chorus today! I ran around in a flash this morning a little ahead of the sun to take day-late bloom-day pics. I'll be in touch!

Layanee and Digital Flower, I didn't actually see the invoice for the buckwheat hulls this year - I'm probably remembering an old price and possibly also wholesale (which is a little unfair if you can't buy ws...) Layanee, You'll have to come see the Stachytarpheta because it doesn't photograph well! I'll post another pic today.

I agree about the Buckwheat Hulls they are even more expensive around here. Gives a nice look though. I am so happy about your Lotus plant. You are a proud parent indeed.

Kris: I love buckwheat hull mulch but don't use it much anymore as it has gotten prohibitive in price. I think you are getting a deal because the garden centers are selling it of $15.99/3 cf bag! Anyway, that was a lovely post about the soiree and can you ask Fred to come over to my place and do a little edging! My balloon flowers are not yet open and I have never heard of stachytarpheta before. I need to come see that plant. Very interesting. Have a lovely weekend...it will probably be Monday before you read this so I hope you had a lovely weekend!

I heard AND saw a cicada yesterday, a sure sign of high summer. As a kid, I remember that they louder they got, the closer the end of summer and start of school was! Tomatoes from the garden also signal summertime for me, and I should get a red tomato late next week, fingers crossed.

I like the lotus flowers, they are pretty and exotic and something I don't have. Anytime you can post for bloom day, please do so, even if it is a few days late!

(And the view from the lawn looking out at the sailboats is spectucular, something we don't have in Indiana!)
