I am ready to cross the pond! It was a magical afternoon and FG was indeed charming, informative, unpretentious, and unabashedly a real plant lover. I, too, have a couple of those solitary beach combing pictures. Blithewold was indeed fortunate to have secured such a talent for the afternoon although the horticulturists as Blithewold do rank high in the gaardening world. A great day spent with an enthusiastic gardener is a gift. Many thanks to you all.

Layanee, Thank you for being here and taking the walk around with us - and for your very kind words too! -kris

Kris, I'm sorry I missed this inspiring afternoon. So many of us come to gardening without the benefit of formal training or having an accomplished mentor guiding our experience. Trial and error are our best teachers, but wouldn't we all be further along in our pursuits with the guidance of a wise and talented teacher?
What we can do is visit special gardens and talk with their creators and/or caregivers. Experimenting without the fear of making mistakes will only add to our experience. (My favorite gardens at Blithewold have always been the everchanging "cutting beds", with the exciting mixture of a colorful annuals perennials and shrubs). Perhaps someday we in turn wll become someone'smentor.

Kathy, I count you as one of my mentors for sure. I think you hit the nail on the head about experimenting without fear. Anyone who does that has a lot to teach. And I think that the more triumphs we have in the garden, the more experimental mistakes we're willing to make. (Does that make sense?) -kris

I've wanted to go myself. It is a gardening Mecca. There's nothing like making a garden seem subpar than to have a gardening legend have a look at it. And Fergus is as close as we can get to Christo's superstar.

I can't blame him for going to the shore! It is beautiful....why have you never shown us these picks before!?

Susan, Why not indeed? I do go down there every now and again (and actually I think there are a couple of pictures to prove it) but I'm going to make a point of paying more attention to all of the things/places I take for granted. -kris
